You’ll simply have to get some wheels powder coated for your Subaru.

all in good time. just have to find the right ones first. current desire is for the wheels from a Subaru Legacy Spec B, but they are stupid rare/expensive

I would argue that a good two part clear coat would provide as much protection as powder coat. A good hardened clear coat is a tough coating. Single stage clear coat is garbage for wheels.
I’m actually a big fan of the plastidip products for wheel coatings. Works great and protects the wheels beneath. It doesn’t wipe clean though, but I keep mine dark anyway, so they always look the same whether brake dusted or not.
How much are we talking, typically, for powder coat?

Powder coat is thicker than paint and can be used to cover up pitting left over from rust mitigation. A friend of mine had a bicycle powder coated. The only issue was the need to chase all of the mounting points - bottom bracket, rear dropout, head tube, brake mounts, etc. If they aren’t chased properly, the mating surface will still have powder coat on it and the parts won’t align correctly.

If you don’t mind my asking, how much did it run you to PC a set of four? Did you have to get them sandblasted first? I’ve got some spoke style Cherokee wheels that I want to get coated in a dull gold colour to match the pin striping on my AMC wagon.

i hunted on craigslist and found a guy who ran anprofessional shop, mostly industrial stuff but wheels also. he media blasted them abd powdercoated them for $400 for the set. but I’d say average prices were closer to $600 a set of 4.
